Finding therapy in the Netherlands as an international
Finding a therapist in a different country can be a difficult and confusing task. You don't always know the right place to look, and you have to navigate a healthcare system that works completely differently from the one you grew up with. Therapy can also feel expensive, especially compared to what you're used to back home. But there are real challenges too: long waiting lists, a limited number of covered sessions, and not much choice in who you actually end up with. The chance of being matched with someone who understands international life specifically isn't always high. Fortunately, there is a growing international community of therapists who work specifically with expats and internationals and working with someone who has personal and professional insight into these experiences can also help therapy feel more relatable and understood from the beginning.
Living abroad
Originally from Greece, I moved to the Netherlands in 2021, and through this experience I came to understand more personally how living abroad can move us outside of our familiar environments and comfort zones. While this can be meaningful and enriching, it can also bring to the surface struggles, emotions, and patterns that may have already existed quietly in the background for years, but now ask for our attention more directly.

A bit about me and how I work
I’m Lena Georgiadi, a psychologist offering online therapy in English to adults across the Netherlands and internationally. Over the years, I have worked with many expats, internationals, students, and young professionals facing difficulties such as anxiety, stress, overthinking, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, perfectionism, burnout, loneliness, and major life transitions. I feel particularly connected to this work because I also live within an international environment myself and understand firsthand both the visible and less visible parts of adapting to life abroad.
